The purpose of this call is to improve digital trust using digital identities for natural persons, legal entities and objects. Researchers may present their interdisciplinary initiatives and applications prepared with input from researchers in other fields of study, relevant societal organisations and companies. The call was developed in partnership with the Dutch Blockchain Coalition.
Broad digital trust
What this programme hopes to achieve is the development and standardisation of digital identities to create and maintain broad digital trust. Digital identities consist of data about a person, organisation, application or object that are stored on computer systems. They are commonly used to better verify information, and they are a crucial element in safeguarding the reliability of interactions and transactions in the complex digital world. As such, it is essential for people to be able to trust digital technologies and services to handle these digital identities with integrity.
Relevant research questions therefore concern not only challenges of technological development and standardisation, but also societal challenges of regulation and social acceptance.
