In 2025, the members of ICT Research Platform Netherlands (IPN) will once again award the Netherlands Prize for ICT Research in recognition of research in the field of ICT. People in this field are invited to nominate candidates. The award comes with a certificate, a sculpture and 50,000 euros in prize money for spending on ICT research of the winner’s choosing. The ICT Prize is made possible in part by a generous subsidy from COMMIT\.

Who?

The Netherlands Prize for ICT Research is awarded annually to a researcher who conducts innovative research or who is responsible for a scientific breakthrough in ICT. It serves to honour the researcher as a person and to promote ICT as a profession. The prize is awarded to a single person, who may be Dutch or else someone from outside the Netherlands who did their research at a Dutch educational institution and/or research institute. By way of an exception, the prize may be awarded to several people together, if they each had an equal role in the research.

One of the factors considered in selecting the winner is whether the researcher has displayed an ability to present the results achieved to the public in clear, understandable terms. The winner will be involved in NWO’s publication of an easy-to-understand explanation of the winning work and its importance. Digital copies of that publication are then sent to schools and other institutes.

Recommendations

The Board of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW) invites professors and other experts in the field to recommend one or two nominees for the prize. Each recommendation should include a description of the nominated research and highlight the scientific and/or technological opportunities that it presents. The recommendations put forward for the prize will be reviewed by a panel made up of KHMW members who are experts in ICT and related fields. The prize is awarded by the Board of the KHMW.

To put forward a nominee, send an email to KHMW Secretary for Natural and Medical Sciences Professor Dr A.P. IJzerman at secretaris@khmw.nl. Nominations must be submitted before 15 November 2024. Details about how to nominate a candidate are described in the Rules of Procedure for the Judges of the Netherlands Prize for ICT Research (Jury reglement voor de Nederlandse Prijs voor ICT-onderzoek, in Dutch only).
